NEW YORK, May 19, 2026: Shakira is back in World Cup mode. The Colombian superstar has teamed with Nigerian Afrobeats artist Burna Boy for “Dai Dai,” the official song for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, giving the tournament a cross-continental pop anthem built around Latin rhythm, Afrobeats pulse and multilingual celebration. The track features the two artists trading verses before joining together as a duet.

The release lands at a major moment for Shakira, who will also co-headline the first-ever FIFA World Cup final halftime show with Madonna and BTS on July 19 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. FIFA and Global Citizen said the performance will be curated by Coldplay’s Chris Martin and will support the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, an initiative aiming to raise $100 million for education and football access for children worldwide.

For Shakira, “Dai Dai” marks a return to familiar turf with a fresh passport stamp. Her “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)” was the official song of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, and AP notes it is still widely regarded as one of the tournament’s standout musical moments.

The new World Cup role follows another stadium-sized reminder of Shakira’s global reach. Earlier this month, about 2 million people packed Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro for her free concert, which Reuters reported was the biggest show of her career. The set included “Hips Don’t Lie,” “Antologia” and “Waka Waka,” with Brazilian stars Anitta, Caetano Veloso, Maria Bethânia and Ivete Sangalo joining her onstage.

FIFA’s halftime plans make “Dai Dai” more than a standalone single. In FIFA’s announcement, Shakira said the World Cup stage brings together two parts of her life: making music and building schools. The final will put that message in front of one of the largest audiences in global sports, turning the song into both a tournament soundtrack and a banner for the education campaign behind the show.
